episode 1683: Payne Lindsey’s new weekly podcast

  • Exclusive: Payne Lindsey is to launch his first weekly podcast - and we've got the first look of the trailer to watch here. "Talking to Death" will launch on Nov 15, from Tenderfoot TV and iHeart, and combines a unique blend of storytelling and off-the-cuff conversations.
  • Acast released its Q3/23 financial report (report PDF, presentation PDF). For Q3, the company saw net sales growth of 32% y-on-y, largely driven by North America which posted 55% growth, and the company moved closer to profitability. Average revenue per listen was a record 0.33 SEK (3 cents).

    • Total listens dipped in the quarter (Jul/Aug/Sep) by 2.9%. Acast CEO Ross Adams blamed a decrease in listens on changes in download behaviour by Apple Podcasts in iOS 17. But, iOS 17 was only released on Sep 18, and only 16.7% of iPhones had installed it by the end of September, an adoption rate that Cult of Mac calls "a trickle". Too early to blame Cupertino?
  • The BBC will compete against independent audio producers for more BBC shows, according to trade body AudioUK in a statement. The changes include both BBC Sounds commissions, and those for the BBC's radio stations.
