After a successful first podcast season – exposing his Uncle Mitch’s killer – Toby Buchanan was settling into a quiet life writing ads for the local car dealer when it was rudely interrupted by another mystery. He received a severed toe in the mail, and some mysterious communication about something horrific happening in the Wairarapa beach town of Ruatuna on New Years Eve. Unable to resist the pull of another mystery, Toby heads to Ruatuna to see if he can use his investigative skills to solve the mystery and finds a town full of small-town characters who are all as suspicious as each other. After escaping his security conscious and geriatric Air BnB hosts, Lynn and Stan Winstanley, Toby finally makes it out into the small town of Ruatuna. Starting at the local drinking hole he meets the vigilant and close-knit locals and doesn’t get a very warm reception.
He does get one lead though, David Dearlove – the town’s much loathed property developer trying to make Ruatuna a town for the metropolitan elite of Aotearoa. The town hates him, and he hates the town - Could he be trying to threaten the locals to buy it up cheap?
