Jose Custodio Abbe Faria 1756-1819 Abbe Faria was a Portuguese, Lucerno monk, philosopher and a revisionary mesmerist, from Goa. When he was alive he was the most famous hypnotist in the world. Dr Delgados 1906, “Memoir on the life of Abbe Faria” tells how Abbe Faria was depicted fictionally by Alexandre Dumas in “Count of Monte Cristo”.
