More Than A Muse

Welcome to MORE THAN A MUSE, a weekly podcast where we explore the lives of women artists, musicians, writers, sculptors, and more. Join Stauney (a graphic designer) and Sadie (a singer-songwriter) EVERY MONDAY as we reframe art history and pop culture with feminism, empowering women to be educated, unapologetically angry, and champion those whom history has forgotten. Through in-depth historical discussions and pop culture chats, we spotlight unsung heroines, all while challenging the status quo. It's time to remember every woman artist as 'More Than A Muse'.

episode 75: The Art of the Olympics

The Olympics may have ended, but it's still a chance to reflect back on how music and art are involved in these biennial games in a huge way. We discuss the Olympic games division of Art Competitions and the complications that eventually ended them and then move into how modern Olympic competitions still involve the arts in many ways, going over the fashion of the Olympics, including notable female designers like Bonnie Cashin, Stella McCartney, Vera Wang, and Kim Kardashian. Then we talk about the music of the Olympics (opening ceremonies and performance numbers) touching on The Chicks and Leanne Rhymes, Björk, and Jennifer Thomas. Lastly, we end with the Graphic Design of the Olympics including the invention of pictograms, the medals, wayfinding systems, and Deborah Sussman's iconic 1984 LA Summer Olympic Identity design. Just because it's sports doesn't mean there isn't art involved in every step!
