back from the borderline

Note: This is an OG episode of BFTB. For some of my older episodes, I’ve decided to archive them and make them available only for Premium Submarines. Enjoy this throwback episode.Original episode description: If you identify with the symptoms of borderline personality disorder (also known as BPD or EUPD), it’s likely you’ve heard of “splitting.” Splitting is a defense mechanism that causes a person to view something or someone in ‘black and white’ terms (i.e., “all good” or “all bad.) This episode is part one in a three-part deep dive series on BPD splitting behaviors. If you identify with BPD, it’s likely you’re not conscious of when you’re splitting or why it happens. This can be a very painful and isolating experience. By listening to this series, you'll finally become aware of these self-sabotaging patterns and become better connected to yourself and those around you...

your chance to participate in a study that could transform the future of BPD diagnosis

Join me for a deep dive into an exciting research initiative spearheaded by honors student Pearl Meredith at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Under the guidance of Principal Investigator Dr. Jocelyn Lymburner, this study seeks to transform our perception and relationship with the Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) label.

The heart of this research lies in understanding the lived experience of those diagnosed with BPD. If you're at least 16 years old and have been clinically diagnosed with BPD, your participation could be pivotal in reshaping how BPD is viewed and treated. The study's goal is to explore diverse individual experiences with BPD, focusing on personal interpretations, management strategies, and their overall impact on well-being.

As a listener of Back from the Borderline, your involvement in this study is not just an opportunity to contribute to vital research but also a chance for personal reflection. Participation involves completing an anonymous, 30-minute survey via Qualtrics, where you'll share insights about your mental health care experiences, thoughts, and feelings related to your BPD diagnosis. Your privacy and comfort are paramount, with the assurance of anonymity and voluntary participation. And there's an added incentive: all participants can enter a draw for one of four $50 VISA gift cards.

But that's not all. If you don't meet the study requirements or simply wish to stay informed, you have the option to sign up to receive the study results once completed. This is a unique opportunity to stay connected with the latest advancements in understanding BPD.

In this episode, we not only delve into the nuances of the BPD label, discussing its empowering and harmful aspects, but also emphasize the importance of your voice in this study. Your experiences, challenges, and insights are invaluable in paving the way for a more empathetic and informed approach to BPD. Join me in this enlightening episode as we venture into the world of BPD, highlighting the crucial role your stories play in advancing mental health research and understanding.
