Hardly any family has not mourned a death. Displacements, disappearances, torture, kidnappings, grenade and bomb attacks have left their mark on generations of people in Mindanao since the late 1960s. Children grew up with fear, mistrust and hatred. Now there is hope for a new beginning: after successful peace negotiations in 2014, a majority voted for the "Autonomous Region of Bangsamoro in Muslim Mindanao" in 2019. Since then, the acts of war have decreased, but they have not stopped. After all, how can people overcome their hatred and engage in a new beginning together? Derek Sanico has done it himself and now supports people in opening up to dialog and reconciliation.
