112. Strategic Communication

In today’s episode, we are going to talk about strategic communication.

What I mean by that is the type of conversation where you are trying to influence someone to do something or align with you on what you want to do. However you need to plan this out strategically, you can’t just wing it if you want it to go well.

Think about a few different things when you are planning a conversation that involves a big program, project, organizational changes, new strategy or alignment. To have success in these conversations, you need to look at the person first. It will help you plan for it and actually execute it in a better way.

In this episode:

  • Plan out your conversations strategically using some key questions that help you position the conversation in the best way to get results.
  • If you want to get a yes from the person you are influencing, you need to plan out the conversation in advance.
  • What do you know about the person or persons that you need to meet with?
  • Think about what you need from them.
  • How will you position the conversation?
  • What do you do post-meeting?
  • This type of conversation can provide a great deal of visibility for you and planning it out ensures that the conversation will be well received so you get great feedback and are thought of for future opportunities.
