My journey as the 49ers Fangirl began on January 14, 1990. It was on that day that as a young girl, I traveled to San Francisco with my family for the 1989 NFC Championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. A native Angeleno, I was rooting for the Rams. Then at some point, in the middle of the second quarter, I turned to my mom and said, “I love Joe Montana.” And that was it. I became a die-hard, gold-blooded Niner Faithful and never looked back. Tracy Sandler and San Francisco 49ers and 49ers Fan GirlAs a teenage girl, I watched every game, dressed in good luck outfits on game days – even if those days were Monday and I had school, educated my teenage girlfriends about Steve Young and Elvis Grbac, while discussing Tom Rathman, Jerry Rice, and Ricky Watters with my teenage guy friends. I cried when the Niners lost to the Giants in the 1990 NFC Championship game – damn Matt Bahr field goal! Instead of a Sweet 16, I went to Dallas for the NFC Championship game, which did not turn out nearly as well as the Rams game...

[Podcast EP #41] Tracy & Steph, Your Friendly 49ers’ Support Group Leaders

The San Francisco 49ers almost won on Sunday! Even though they didn’t, they showed some fight and that’s something. For the first time in a long time, eight weeks to be exact, it was actually fun to watch the 49ers. It came down to the last second, and I was actually nervous. It’s been ages since that’s happened. Colin Kaepernick looked strong passing for 210 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 55 yards and a touchdown. Most importantly, no turnovers! Meanwhile, the 49ers’ defense recovered two fumbles, had two interceptions and 10 pass break ups. And they held the Cardinals to 80 rushing yards total. Major, major improvements. Now Tom Brady and the New England Patriots come to town. Well…hopefully our guys in the red and gold can at least compete. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersFangirl)break down the game and look to the future, focusing on: - The difference we see in Kaepernick’s play, pocket passing, and overall confidence - The massive upgrade on the run defense…and the defense generally - Jimmie Ward and the 49ers’ secondary – did they really look that good or is just that they’re finally doing their job? - Trent Baalke’s mea culpa and what that means for his future and the future of Chip Kelly - And the upcoming game against the Patriots. It probably won’t be that fun, but it may not be as bad as you think. Thanks for listening! It’s been a tough season, but at least we have each other. Go Niners!!
