Literacy of Love

Literacy of Love

1 John 3:1, Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

One of the biggest problems in any society is illiteracy—the inability to read. Literacy is an essential skill to person development and fulfillment in life. One of the least desirable attributes is to be considered Illiterate.

 Literacy Defined:

1) Literacy is traditionally understood as the ability to read, write and use arithmetic

2)The modern term’s meaning has been expanded to include the ability to use language, numbers, images, computers, and other basic means to understand, communicate, gain useful knowledge and use the dominant symbol systems of a culture

Since we see many forms of literacy defined today, I want to offer another form of literacy: The Literacy of Love. It is the ability, willingness, and skill to walk in love (deeds and truth)

Paul contrasted other abilities to the ability to love.

1 Corinthians 13:1, Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

What kind of love has the Father given us?

He has given us the kind of love that has transformed us into children of God
