Eric Gill: Is it possible to separate art from the artist?

Eric Gill is famous around the world for his sculpture, his woodcuts and his typography. He's the man who designed the fonts Gill Sans and Perpetua. But long after he died he became well known for his private life - his incestuous relationships with his sisters and daughters and a bestial relationship with his dog. There is a major exhibition of his art opening at the end of this month at the Ditchling Museum in conjunction with the Brighton Festival. The show asks if our appreciation of his work should be affected by what we now know of the man. Nicola Stanbridge reports. (Image: Eric Gill with a ladder, credit: Getty Images).
