"In this in-between moment, we—the Church— act out the surprising reality that death has been—and will be—swallowed up by God. Even with funeral clothes on our backs, veils on our faces, and pain in our hearts, we boldly step forward into this feast. We courageously resist the rule of death. We embody an alternative to the fear and hatred and division in which death deals. We welcome strangers, love our neighbors, and forgive those who hurt us, because we believe that Jesus rose from the dead and in doing so defeated the power that has for so long turned us against and away from each other.
