Forgiver

Main Point: Our greatest need is to receive God’s forgiveness.
Take away: Come to Jesus for forgiveness, and help others find that forgiveness too.
Suggested Memory Verse: Psalm 103:2-3 - Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.

Discussion Questions

While the text does not connect the man’s physical state and his sin, we know that in sometimes there is a connection. How can our sin impact our physical health? How can forgiveness?

This man had a great group of friends: people who would do anything to get him to Jesus. What did they have to face/overcome in order to help him? What are friendships like that worth to you?

At first the paralyzed man didn’t get what he had been brought to Jesus for. How do you think he felt at that moment, or what might he have been thinking? What do you think he might have been thinking as he walked out of the room a few minutes later?

Jesus’ authority to forgive sins was questioned. Do you ever question that? Do you ever doubt that Jesus has forgiven your sins?

Table Discussion Question – Read this verse together - “Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight.” (Romans 4:7 - New Living Translation). Tell a story about a time you experienced forgiveness for disobedience, and how that made you feel.
