It’s fair to say that Sasse is one of Finland’s biggest musical exports, and one of quality house music’s leading lights. Setting up one of his country’s first house music clubs in the early ‘90s, he launched his incredibly dependable Moodmusic imprint in 1996, before moving to Frankfurt at the end of the decade and on to Berlin - where he remains today.

He helped to discover Henrik Schwarz - releasing his first three EPs - and has brought the world music from the likes of Thugfucker, Dave DK, Chopstick & Johnjon, The Timewriter and dozens of others via Moodmusic. As a producer, his atmospheric, lush, melodic take on the house blueprint has resulted in four albums and releases on Bedrock, Pooledmusic, Mule Musiq and My Favorite Robot Records amongst others. His Freestyle Man alias explored his old skool house roots, and is set to return later this year - with an exclusive new track on this mix for Monologues.

How do you describe your sound?

It´s techno and electronica inspired roots music mixed with house… some might call it deep house but that term is awful nowadays.

Who and what inspires your music?

My travels as a DJ inspire me as well as other artists of course, be it DJs or live acts. I listen to a broad spectrum of music and I hope to be able to bring this inspiration to my own productions as well.

Tell us about this mix…

Additionally to some of my own music, the mix consists of of my recent output as a remixer as well as some collaborations I did. There is only one remix from others - namely the Mano Le Tough Remix of my 2010 single ‘On My Mind’. I wanted to keep the mix upfront but due to the fact that I’ve been DJing the Mano remix a lot recently I think it fits perfectly the mood. In the end I added two deeper productions, both under my Freestyle Man moniker which I will reactivate again this year. So enjoy the mix!
