Makalapua, Ulupalakua, Beautiful Kaua`i, & Ka Lawe `Ia Ola E Ku`u Aloha

Makalapua written for Hawaii’s last reigning monarch, Queen Lili`uokalani, and performed by Hollis Lee. Music adapted from the hymn, “Would I Were Thee”. Originally attributed as being written by the Queen’s mother, Konia, some credit David Nape with the words and music. Ulupalakua by John P. Watkins performed by George Kahumoku, Jr. Meaning, breadfruit ripened on the back, John P. Watkins was so impressed by the cold mountain air, the sweet-smell of the gingers, and the cowboys that he composed this song to honor the district. Beautiful Kaua`i composed by Randy Farden in 1965 and performed by George Kahumoku, Jr. speaks of the beauty of the island of Kaua`i. Ka Lawe `Ia Ola E Ku`u Aloha performed by George Kahumoku, Jr.
