This man defused 119 bombs in six months

The US is "not winning in Afghanistan right now, we will correct this as soon as possible," US defence secretary Jim Mattis has said. Having been granted permission from the president, a new strategy, bolstered with more troops on the ground, is expected to be announced in July. In one six-month tour in Afghanistan Kim Hughes defused 119 explosive devices, before being awarded the George Cross in 2010 for what the Army described as the "single most outstanding act of explosive ordnance disposal ever recorded in Afghanistan". Mr Hughes explained to Sarah Montague how he felt about the deteriorating situation in the country and how he became the most highly-decorated bomb disposal operator serving in the British Army.
