Discussion Questions
Have you ever read Matthew 12:46-50 or Luke 14:25-26 and been puzzled by what Jesus was saying? How do you understand these verses now?
Jesus’ teaching and example made things better for women and children, but we are still learning how to live those out. What are some issues facing “people groups” in our society today (including women, children, immigrants, the elderly, the poor, etc.)? Which ones are of particular interest to you? How does Jesus speak into those and what are some Christian responses we might make to address them?
What are some places where you see Christian influence on the family? Based on your knowledge of Jesus’ teachings, do you think families would be better off or worse off for following Jesus? (I know the answer to that is assumed, but why do you think what you think? Would the family be better off if there were no religion, or no focus on God?)
