It Ain't What You Got by Jimmy Hughes

Label: Atlantic 2454
Year: 1968
Condition: M-
Price: $60.00

This Fame studios, Rick Hall-produced recording is simply dynamite, appetizing to fans of both Northern and Funky Soul. Hughes didn't stay with Atlantic for long, but he left a hidden gem with this little 45. The A side ("It Ain't...") did get enough sales and airplay to chart nationally in the U.S., but it didn't quite crack the Black/RnB Top 40. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" to check it out... Enjoy! Collector Nerd Alert: This very short (2:10) tune appears to be a one-off, as the singer had neither more singles nor an album on Atlantic: This was a non-album single. Note: This beautiful copy has a drillhole and comes in a vintage Atlantic Records factory sleeve. The vinyl looks almost untouched, and the A side audio is pristine Mint (listen to the mp3 "snippet"). The B side audio has very light surface noise, grading Near Mint.
