Episode #5 - Creative Director, Jesse Nicely

CREATIVE DIRECTOR - JESSE NICELY There is just so much to say about Jesse. I’ve known him for forever, and it’s as if he is my twin brother. We share the same name, and at times say the same thing. Our mother named us gender appropriately too, not really. He’s not really my brother, but he might as well be. I have known Jesse for almost twenty years. We met back in New York in the late nineties, and connected in the same circle of friends. We spent many years reminiscing about music, smoking trees, laughing, and many nights doing the same thing, but while dancing and/or being part of New York’s downtown art culture. Those years I spent finding myself and becoming an adult were so incredibly lived in New York, and Jesse was definitely a player in all that. Now I am so blessed to have him as my friend, while I now live in his hometown, Los Angeles; maybe one day I’ll forgive Jesse for living on the West Side of LA. I guess no matter what coast I’m on, I’m still always about the East; only this time it means East LA baby. Jesse Nicely is a Los Angeles native. He grew up in “the 818” the Valley and listened heavily to old school hip-hop and rap, while connecting deeply with the East Coast style, and so much so that it made him move all the way to New York to find out about it. He studied Psychology and Journalism at New York University and later became the Managing Editor at Frank151; helping to launch their presence globally. Down the line he became the Editor-In-Chief for Toyota Scion’s Magazine and eventually moving on with Dentsu America, the US subsidiary of Japan’s largest advertising agency, as their Strategic Planner. Today he is the creative director at the Cashmere Agency, and works exclusively with people like Snoop Dogg. Check out his concepts and work on www.MerryJane.com. I especially like the Deflowered series. He is most certainly, and definitely one of the smartest, most cultured guys I know, who’s always just in the know. He has this way of thinking ahead about concepts, and it’s a constant, it’s hilarious, as well as inspiring to be around. You can’t be in a room with him for more than five minutes, without him saying something incredibly innovative and basically brain-iac-tastic. I just made that up. One of Jesse’s projects is being the creative and founder of Puffingtons Golf, a lifestyle brand in the Cannagolf space. His Pitch-N-Puff golf tee-one hitter, for people who want to “par-tee” on and off the gold course, is just kinda genius. My favorite is the Bent Grass Golf Ball Stash, ideal for off the course and in your car. Wink. Jesse always has his hands in something. I loved, loved, loved recording this episode with Jesse. We have always shared a similar love of music, and I mean do you know anyone who listened to NWA, at under ten years-old? Shit is real. I love you Jess. Thanks for being a forever friend. -Seeps
