The ethics of altering DNA
Scientists have developed a gene editing technique which could eventually eradicate thousands of inherited diseases.They successfully corrected the DNA of human embryos to remove an inherited heart disorder. Darren Griffin, professor of genetics at the University of Kent, says there is an "ethical debate" that needs to be had. Mr Griffin says the solution to avoiding designer babies is to have a "very strong regulatory framework". Today's science editor Tom Feilden explains the significance of the discovery.
