Under pressure: North Korea

The UN Security Council has voted for additional sanctions on North Korea. The unanimous decision followed repeated missile tests by the North which have escalated tensions on the peninsula.. Steve Evans is the BBC’s former Korea correspondent. He tells Today: "You can't doubt the threat from North Korea, the state media produces videos saying Washington will turned into a sea of flame and deepest racist insults...some American politicians are saying war is the only answer." Danny Russel is a diplomat in residence at the Asia Society Policy Institute and was Special Assistant to the US President, serving under Obama and Trump as the National Security Council Senior Director for Asian Affairs. He tells Mishal Husain: "This is a significant advance, one of the important aspects of the latest resolution is that it moves from putting a cap on the export of minerals from North Korea to banning them outright... it also puts a stop to any expansion on North Korean labour export, which is another source of income."
