On today’s show we have Michael Brooks – a highly successful businessman. If you’d like to emulate his success, this episode is a “must listen”. We’ll teach you a highly innovative way in which you can have not only financial freedom but be your own boss, a leader and manage others. Without giving too much away, in this podcast we are going to explore the world of freelancing via digital platforms. There is an exciting world out there where you can not only just work for yourself but also manage virtual teams. But before we get into this exciting podcast, let me tell you a little bit more about our guest Michael.
Michael is an entrepreneur, speaker, author, college professor and self-made businessman. A little insight from his CV: specializing in e-commerce and direct sales for over 15 years, Michael’s vision began to come into play in 2002 when he grew a two-person business development firm from inception to a $2,000,000 a month direct marketing e-commerce business within 2.5 years. Before long, he became founder/president of an electronic payment company and built its revenue to $250k a month within six months. Under his leadership, the company grew its independent sales division to 300 nationwide agents. That’s just a small taste of his very impressive CV. I’m very excited to welcome Michael to the show.

Michael, welcome onto the show. It’s such a pleasure to have you here.
Let’s talk about the journey of your career, starting from the early days. When you were young, did you know what you actually wanted to be when you grow up?
Michael
Thank you Kylie, it’s such a pleasure to be here. I don’t know if I knew what I wanted to be when I was young but I was always selling something. Outgoing and social, I was always excited when I had a job to do or a connection to make. At one point or another I always found a way to have fun while generating an income. I sold candy in high school for charity, which was a lot of fun.
Kylie
It’s really about enjoying what you are doing. Life doesn’t start at a point in the future. It starts now. Where did you go after high school?
Michael
I went to California State University for a short while where I worked with a friend in a resume company. Then to promotions in a lot of alcohol companies throwing parties, to tour around the country for a cigar company travelling to 35 states enjoying every bit of what I was doing.
Kylie
If you want to be successful you need to be happy first. Often we have the equation the wrong way around. Enjoy what you do and the success will come. Check out Shawn Anchors TED talk for more -

I agree. If you don’t enjoy what you do, stop and do something else. The more uncertainties you can stomach, the more freedom you can have. People are programmed to believe and depend on specific programs and the most of it is brainwashing. The difference between the rich, the poor and the middle class is what they do in their spare time. What you do in your spare time can give you more security. In case you get laid out off, you still remain with a solid footing. There’s a lot you can do. The internet has opened up so much mobility, allowing people to go out on their and succeed.
Kylie
So tell us more about what you are doing now?
Michael
A group of us started a freelance platform. We take a more global finance approach, financing for employers, ensuring quality, face-to-face interaction and connecting employers to freelancers.
Kylie
So when did you launch that business?
Michael
About 2 years ago we started. We’ve been running for about 6 months now.
Kylie
What else would you like to highlight? Anything we might have skipped over.
Michael
Lots of bumps and mistakes, a lot experience in humility and ego checking.
