Betting terminals 'destroying lives'

The maximum stake for fixed-odds betting terminals could drop to as little as £2 under a government review. Labour deputy leader Tom Watson says he is "disappointed" that the government had launched a review when it should be taking action. "These fixed-odds betting terminals are destroying the lives of people who can't afford to gamble," he says. Reducing fixed-odds maximum bets to £2 could close "4,500 betting shops", to be replaced by "grotty amusement arcades", says Malcolm George of the Association of British Bookmakers.
