S3E3: “Video Wars”
Synopsis: In Season 3, episode 3: “‘Video Wars,’ Clash wants desperately to become a Misfit; however, Pizzazz will not let her. Clash convinces Pizzazz to allow her be a member of The Misfits if she manages to ruin Jem’s live video performance. Pizzazz agrees and Clash comes up with a plan to disguise herself as a college student and ask Jem if she can go on tour with them for a ‘video project.’ While on the tour, she finds herself actually admiring and enjoying being around The Holograms.”

Episode 56 (S3E3) is written by Cary Bates and Greg Weisman. This week’s Show Notes were written by Aleen.
We open with Lin-Z introducing Like a Dream, which we’ve seen on at least two previous episodes, but this video features Danse’s fancy footwork.
The Misfits and Clash are are watching the show. The Misfits comment that Clash’s cousin, Video, has been far more successful than Clash can ever hope to be. Clash asks the Misfits to let her record their next video, saying that she wants to be the fifth Misfit. Pizzazz calls Clash a loser and walks away.
Meanwhile, Video, Shana, and one of the Starlight girls are talking in a recording/post production studio about how much work Video has to do, as all of her clients expect her to make sure that everything is “the best.”
Meanwhile, someone’s knocking at the Misfit’s door. Naturally, the Misfits make fun of her and steal her glasses. It turns out that this person is actually Clash in disguise, and she has a master plan. Soon we see her, in disguise as “Sarah”, at Starlight Mansion talking with Jerrica and the Holograms about producing a documentary about what it would be like to be on the road with Jem and the Holograms.
The Holograms politely refuse to allow Sarah to come behind the scenes on their upcoming 3-day tour, which causes Sarah to cry because she wants to be a videographer like her idol, Video. Reya convinces Jerrica to reconsider and allow Sarah on the tour.
Later, as Aja and Jerrica are working out together, Aja tells Jerrica that she has concerns about Sarah coming along on the road. Aja mentions that she thinks it’s unwise, as the Jem/Jerrica secret may be revealed. Jerrica says that Aja is being “stubborn and unreasonable.”
Clash reveals her plan to the Misfits: she’ll “shoot the Holograms at their very worst” so she can swap it out for Video’s video on the next episode of Lin-Z’s show. Pizzazz agrees to allow Clash to be the fifth Misfit if all goes according to plan.
At 5:00 the next morning, Sarah’s up and filming Jerrica and the Holograms getting on their tour bus. She asks where Jem is, which prompts Jerrica to call upon Synergy to create a Jem hologram for the trip.
Later, on the bus, Sarah is filming the passing scenery while Jem naps in the back of the bus. Jerrica talks to Synergy and tells her to keep up the good work, Aja gets testy, and Shana comments about how Aja and Jerrica aren’t going to paint a good picture for the documentary if they keep up their bickering, which leads to our next song, One of Those Days: the video where anything that can go wrong will go wrong at rehearsals and concerts.
At their next venue, which is currently occupied by a circus, the lion tamer is having trouble getting a giant cat in its cage. Rio says he’s going to go help, something he’s totally and completely qualified to do.
Sarah says that it’s admirable that the Holograms take care of each other. While she’s talking with Jerrica, the lion gets away. Aja helps distract the lion and save Jerrica, while Sarah saves Raya. When the lion is captured, Jerrica and Aja comment that Sarah’s practically an honorary Hologram.
Later, Clash has finished her uncomplimentary video, which Pizzazz seems to like. Clash tries to convince the Misfits that they could just keep the video to themselves, but Pizzazz says that not only will Clash not become the fifth Misfit, she’ll miss the opportunity to ruin Video’s career. Pizzazz has also enlisted Tech Rat to sabotage Jem and the Holograms and make them late to Lin-Z’s show.
Clash sneaks into Lin-Z’s studio, dressed as her cousin, and steals Video’s cut of the video clip they’ll air on Lin-Z’s show. Clash, still dressed as Video, delivers the tape to the studio and asks the producer not to watch it, as she wants it to be a surprise.
While Video tries to recreate the video Clash stole. Tech Rat’s done his techy thing and is in control of the Rockin’ Roadster as Jem and the Holograms try to make it to Lin-Z’s studio. (He’s planted a “digital electronic doodad”.)
As the Rockin’ Roadster careens out of control, Jem and the Holograms spot a helicopter and ask Synergy to get the pilot’s attention, which Synergy does by producing a light show that says “HELP”. The pilot saves them and takes them to Lin-Z’s studio, just as the Misfits walk in.
Because the Holograms are missing and the Misfits are “female, they sing, and they’re a group,” they’re apparently going to go on the air instead of Jem and the Holograms, but Jem bursts through the doors just in time to introduce their video. Fortunately, Video’s delivered the real video just in time.
And now we see a clip video for The Last Laugh. The Misfits call Clash “Sarah” loudly, and Jem overhears. Video asks Clash if she really resents Video so much that she’s sabotage her, and Jem tells Clash that she belonged with the Holograms when she was acting as Sarah. Clash gets angry and storms out after Pizzazz and the Misfits, screaming that she’s capable of being the fifth Misfit.
Then we see Like a Dream and We’re Off and Runnin’ again.
