Trigger Warning This week Shireen Ahmed, Amira Rose Davis, Brenda Elsey, Lindsay Gibbs, and Jessica Luther update listeners on the pending 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Brenda interviews Professor Rachael Joo, an expert on South Korean sport. She provides a nuanced analysis of tensions between local residents and critics of the environmental and economic impact of the games. The team then pivots to a very serious topic: the trial of Larry Nassar, the USA Gymnastics doctor and associate professor at Michigan State University who is accused of sexually assaulting approximately 150 girls and women. Then they forego the usual burn pile to incinerate everything that’s happened in the last two decades to hundreds of girls and women’s subject to Nassar’s treatment and unheard by institutions that were supposed to protect and serve them.
