13139 Mozart - 4 Symphonies

In this broadcast we will play 4 symphonies which were composed in rapid succession after Wolfgang returned from his 3rd musical tour of Italy. We will play the symphonies in order of composition. These performances are by The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields and are conducted by Sir Neville Marriner. Symphony No. 26 in E-flat, K. 184. This one movement symphony is often called an Overture although the signed title page clearly calls this a symphony. Symphony No. 27 in G Major, K. 199 is scored for 2 flutes, 2 horns and strings. Symphony No. 22 in C Major, K. 162 is another 3 movement symphony and is scored for 2 oboes, 2 horns, 2 trumpets and strings. Symphony No. 23 in D Major, K. 181 is a single movement symphony that is often referred to as an Overture. However, like Symphony 26, the signed title page clearly identifies this as a symphony. This symphony is scored for 2 oboes, 2 horns, 2 trumpets and strings. Purchase now at: http://www.classicalsavings.com/store/p410/Mozart%3A_4_Symphonies.html
