The Rohingya crisis
The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has said he heard unimaginable accounts of atrocities after visiting the camps in Cox's Bazaar in Bangladesh near the border with Myanmar. Since August last year, some 700,000 refugees have fled from Rakhine state Myanmar, for neighbouring Bangladesh. Mainly Muslim, they say they were fleeing violence and persecution, including a campaign by military forces in the majority Buddhist country. Guterres is now calling for Myanmar to be held responsible for crimes against the Rohingya.
