Faiz Shakir, the national political director of the American Civil Liberties Union, talks about what the ACLU is doing to help reunite families separated at the border, plus, how the organization is mobilizing voters for the midterm elections across the country.
@fshakir says if it wasn't for the @ACLU's lawsuit, the federal gov't would still be separating families. On kids still separated whose parents were deported, he says they'll keep working within the courts to re-unite those families.
— Brian Lehrer Show (@BrianLehrer) July 27, 2018@fshakir says the families who were deported, and left their children behind, often didn't understand the choices being presented to them. They weren't given a chance to try to gain asylum.
— Brian Lehrer Show (@BrianLehrer) July 27, 2018@fshakir says it feels like the Trump administration is trolling the ACLU in everything it does. And in addition to the legal fights, they are trying to add in political power for voters.
