Tea & Converse

When I visited Amsterdam in 2016 for the first time, I interviewed Tim Sabajo of Patta, producer rosfrom04, DJ collective drknghts and Hussein Suleiman of Daily Paper. It felt like I lucked up in getting all of the right people to tell me about the direction and the history of the city as it related to fashion and music. Shortly after I returned stateside, I received a DM from someone named Dilson. He told me that he's part of a Hip-Hop collective in Amsterdam called No Order and that he does visuals and is an MC. He sent me some links to his work and told me that he'd been enjoying episodes of Tea & Converse and offered some words of encouragement. We talked about Griselda a bit. We shared some thoughts on Ka and Roc Marciano and just nerded out about the current state of Rap music. But more than any of that though, he wanted me to check out someone out in The Netherlands by the name of Ruby Stacks. He sent me video links, pictures, artwork and a track list to a project called PATIENT. You know that moment when you realize you've forgotten your phone, keys or wallet after you've already made it a significant distance from your home? That moment when you're trying to rationalize going the day without because you've come too far? That's what I felt when I clicked on the link to PATIENT. In my moment, it wasn't realistic for me to turn right back around but I made a note to myself that when I did return to Amsterdam, sitting down with Ruby Stacks was high on the agenda. I was able to do that this past June when my good friend Tony Coppin was hanging his "Lines" exhibit at The Hoxton in Amsterdam. After helping Tony and celebrating Tony and seeing the sights and spending a great deal of time at Albert Heijn, I began to coordinate the interview with Ruby Stacks. He welcomed me into his home, offered me coffee and then for almost two hours we talked about his career, his health, basketball and his futbol allegiance.
