episode 33: Giro d’Italia 2018 | Stage 12 | Osimo – Imola

In this episode of The Cycling Podcast, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe recap stage 12 of the race which finished on the motor racing circuit in Imola.

There was contrasting fortunes for Bora-Hansgrohe and Quick Step at the finish because Ireland’s Sam Bennett won his second stage of the Giro while Elia Viviani found himself out of position and out of support from his team-mates. We hear from a couple of Bennett’s team-mates about their joy and from Quick Step’s sports director Rik Van Slyke about what went wrong.

In part two we focus on two of the Italian wild card teams. We hear the team briefing on the Bardiani-CSF bus before the stage. They were competing in their home region and wanted to get riders in the break. And we speak to Gianni Savio, the veteran boss of the Androni Giocattoli team, who have had a rider in every breakaway in this Giro.
