James Kenigsberg is the founding chief technology officer (CTO) at 2U, Inc., a global leader in education technology that partners with great universities to build, deliver, and support world-class online graduate programs and certificates at scale. As founding CTO, Kenigsberg directs 2U’s technology functions and efforts to build an academic product that delivers positive student outcomes, an efficient client relationship management system, and a secure, resilient, and configurable architecture.

An entrepreneur and technology evangelist, Kenigsberg is passionate about using and evolving technology to create digital learning experiences that deliver up-close-and-personal education for students. In order to drive the transformation and future of higher education through cutting-edge technology, Kenigsberg believes a hardworking and diverse team is essential. He takes great pride in building a world-class technology team that is creating innovative edtech platforms far ahead of their time.

In 2018, Kenigsberg led efforts to build and forge a multi-year, global, exclusive partnership to enhance the future of work and learning with WeWork. Through this partnership, WeWork and 2U have expanded access to lifelong learning opportunities for WeWork’s more than 175,000 members and 4,000 employees worldwide and enhanced the educational experience of more than 13,000 students in 2U-powered graduate programs. In 2018, Kenigsberg also led 2U's acquisition of CritiqueIt, Inc., the creator of an industry-leading annotation software intended to enhance the teaching and learning experience in 2U-powered graduate programs and short courses.

Kenigsberg came to 2U from The Princeton Review, where he led the technology and product teams that created and managed the company’s award-winning assessment products. Prior to his work at The Princeton Review, he was a member of the technology and product development teams at Thomson Financial and Ogilvy & Mathers.

Kenigsberg has served on the boards of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Andela, ChalkUp, CloudAware, FlashNotes, Forbes Tech Council, NYC CTO Council, among others. He is focused on student outcomes, business growth, and creating a culture of decision making at speed enabled by data insights and tight collaboration.
