Introduction

DF: You are listening to languagecaster.com’s football-language podcast. Hello everyone! My name’s Damian and this is the podcast for all lovers of the beautiful game of football, and those who want to improve their English language skills. I’m based in London, where we are having beautiful spring-like weather – the sun is out, there are blue skies and compared to this time last year when we had snow and strong winds it’s wonderful weather for playing and watching football. Now, I wonder what the weather is like in Tokyo where Damon is – Damon, how are things with you in Japan?
DB: Hiya Damian. We’re enjoying some mild, for winter, sunny weather here in the capital of Japan – a little bit like you in London. And the balcony is a nice sun trap and my winter peas are coming along nicely! Did you manage to watch any of the games in the Champions League games last 16 this week?
DF: Yes I did, Damon. On Wednesday I saw Atlético Madrid beat Juventus 2-0 at home in their first leg match – this was a really enjoyable game between two sides that have played, and lost, four of the past five Champions League finals, so two of the big-hitters from the competition. Atlético have further motivation to do well this season as the final will be played in their stadium in May, while we all know that Juventus signed Ronaldo this season in order to take that final step and try and win the title for the first time since 1996. Now, the Spanish side won 2-0 thanks to a fantastic second-half performance and look favourites to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Now, I also watched the Liverpool vs Bayern Munich game which finished scoreless, 0-0. I enjoyed it even though some described it as cagey; that’s a tight game. I think the tie is very much in the balance – either team might win it. How about you? Did you watch any of those matches?
DB: I did. I watched both of those games and Atlético look the strongest out of those four I’ve got to say.
DF: Are you confident about Liverpool?
DB: 50-50, I think .

DF: OK, what do we have on today’s show?
DB: Right,
