Very Bad Wizards

Very Bad Wizards is a podcast featuring a philosopher (Tamler Sommers) and a psychologist (David Pizarro), who share a love for ethics, pop culture, and cognitive science, and who have a marked inability to distinguish sacred from profane. Each podcast includes discussions of moral philosophy, recent work on moral psychology and neuroscience, and the overlap between the two.

episode 159: You Have the Right to Go to Prison

David and Tamler answer the question that’s on everyone’s mind: how to live as an anti-natalist. And Tamler is appalled to discover David's anti-natalist leanings. Then in the main segment they talk about paper by Paul Butler on the critique of rights. Butler argues that the progressive liberal's focus on securing legal rights has actually impeded the fight for economic and racial justice (in part because rights are too abstract and indeterminate). It's a striking counterintuitive argument that Tamler (not surprisingly) has more sympathy with than David.Sponsored By:
