Full disclosure upfront. This is going to be a heavy episode. That said, let's begin.
What would it take to forget a genocide? In 1904, Germany - under the miasma of Lebensraum, Racism, Imperialism and Colonialism - declared war on the native Herero people of German South West Africa. When the shooting stopped, 65000 lives had been swept away and the first death camps came into being. In the years to follow, so was the history of that time. In this podcast, we explore the events that lead to it, why it happened, how it was forgotten and how Namibia and Germany are coming to terms with this forgotten atrocity.
