Arizona EMCast

AZEMCast is THE competitive emergency medicine podcast. The host, Dr. Aaron Leetch, moderates a panel of emergency physicians who will go head to head navigating a clinical case from the Ring Down to the Work Up to the Dispo. Panelists are awarded points for their approach to the case and their clinical application of evidence-based medicine. However, points are deducted for weak arguments or reliance on experience-based medicine. The panelist with the most point at the end of the case will win the opportunity to soapbox about whatever aspect of EM they are most passionate about. We hope this podcast will model the knowledge, skills and approach that will help you take the best care of your patients. Posts ≠ medical advice http://uanow.org/participate

episode 42: March 2019 - Skin and Soft Tissue Infections Part 2

Happy March everyone!

Did you listen to the last episode and say to yourself, “Wow, thanks for the great education on identifying SSTIs but you never told me what to do with them! So now I have an ED full of boarded SSTIs because it’s taken you a month to publish the part two on treatment and management!!!”   Ok, probably not, but it’s still worth a listen to this month’s episode on the treatment of SSTIs. In it, we highlight a great example of when guidelines clash with evidence and we decide to do whatever we want anyway. Are you a cephalexin fan or maybe you’re more a clindamycin aficionado. We pit the therapies against the evidence to help provide you the options you need to care for your patients.   So, empower yourselves with some knowledge and send your patients home with the right antibiotics and, more importantly, the right discharge instructions and return precautions.    The AZEMCast Team   Email: aleetch@aemrc.arizona.edu Twitter: @arizonaemcast   https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/arizona-emcast/id685439303?mt=2
