1167 Ezra Donner 1 - Choral and Ensembles

Ezra Donner was only three years old when his father introduced him to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony for the first time, on a recording. Although already familiar with the work's iconic Ode to Joy theme, Ezra found hearing the music in its original context to be a new experience. He was fascinated by how much more there was to the piece than he had previously known, including the famous Turkish march variation.  This early occurrence made a lasting impression on Ezra that would shape his life and career.

Not long after that introduction, Ezra began his musical career, participating in local musical performances in his hometown of North Tonawanda, New York, singing in the children’s choir at Temple Beth Zion in Buffalo, and taking piano lessons at the local YWCA. But the first pivotal moment in his musical life came at the age of thirteen, while Ezra was preparing for his bar mitzvah with Cantor David Goldstein. Around this time Ezra decided it was time become a serious piano student, and Cantor Goldstein recommended a new piano teacher named Frieda Manes, beginning a relationship that set him on the path to become a professional musician.

Now having attained a doctorate in music, Ezra resumes his professional music path in composing, teaching and performance.  To learn more about Ezra Donner, please visit his website at www.ezradonner.com or if your player supports hyperlinks, just click on the title of each piece as it is being played.
