1104 SWSO Idyllic Images

The start of a new concert season is always exciting as the concert-goer always wonders what marvels are waiting to unfold this season.

Southwest Symphony’s 34th Season entitled Etchings in Tone promises to be a season full of exciting and beautiful music.  Some of the music will be familiar and some will be beautiful treasures waiting to be opened.

The first concert of the season, titled Idyllic Images, weaves a gorgeous tapestry of programmatic images with music chosen and conducted by Gary Caldwell.

For the first half of the concert we will hear:

Borodin’s beautiful “In the Steppes of Central Asia” from “Caucasian Sketches”

Then we will hear Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Overture to Hansel and Gretel”

The first half of the concert concludes with  Vaughan-Williams’ “Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis”

After intermission the Southwest Symphony will perform probably the most famous programmatic work of all time - Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 6 in F, Op. 68” also know as the “Pastoral Symphony” which is also my personal favorite symphony.

The Southwest Symphony’s next concert will be their Halloween Spooktacular on October 30th.  For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit the orchestra’s website at “www.SouthwestSymphony.co”

Now we are pleased to present the Southwest Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of this season: Idyllic Images conducted by Maestro Gary Caldwell.
