episode 20: A Second Hand Emotion -- The Parker J Cole Show

Who can forget the iconic song by Tina Turner who asks a question, “What’s love got to do with it? What's love but a second-hand emotion." Of course, my fondest memory is of Angela Bassett portraying the famous rock star singing this song in the movie of the same title. After all the events portrayed in the movie, the movie ends with her asking the very question of what does love have to do with anything? I love the beat and rhythm of this song but I have to wonder if love is a second-hand emotion? Is it something borrowed from the intensity of physical attraction or sexual urges? Is love a leftover from evolutionary processes of survival?  In today's society, love or the idea of love has been used to protect the guilty, to hurt the innocent, to manipulate, to control, to suppress -- at least that's what it seems like. So, when Tina Turner sings: "Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken" do we simply do away with this second-hand emotion?  Join me for the discussion as I talked with Steven Menking from the Amateur Society in this first of a two-part conversation.  You can call in at 646-668-8485, and press 1 to be live on air.
