This week I will personally honor the women that bore the brunt, wore the scars and birthed the legends. WE WILL no longer take from the aesthetics of the black woman and toss aside her true beauty. ALL women are beautiful in their own right and ALL human beings deserved to be recognized. I must recognize my first home: the womb that covered and kept me. I owe it to myself. About a year or so ago, a song came through my speaker entitled “Masterpiece” the lyrics read… Every part of me is a vision of a portrait Of Mona, of Mona Lisa Every part of me is beautiful And I finally see I'm a work of art A masterpiece Listening to the song and driving immediately made me weep. I mean I cried like a baby, for some strange reason it reminded me of my mom and it made me take notice of how I may have treated her when she was here on Earth. I don’t ever remember just stopping her and telling her how beautiful she was or how much I appreciated her inside and out. Then I thought about what she had gone through, what she thought about herself and what others thought of her and I wept some more, feeling the guilt of not being the best son because I was too busy blaming her for not being the best mom.  Brown girls you are: Wives Kingdom Builders Foundation Nurturers Teachers Queens Navigators Protectors
