episode 203: BMC Software: George Kaempf

Throughout a career spanning more than 30 years, George Kaempf has built and led successful UX teams in many different environments learning and evolving a user-focused process to fit in each situation.   Armed with a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology, George Kaempf began his career in the world of Human Factors. For the first 12 years, he conducted field and laboratory studies of human cognitive behavior in complex and risk-prone environments and applied the learnings to systems design. He focused on understanding how people make decisions and judgements under time pressure and high risk and honed the skills needed to uncover cognitive performance in natural settings.    At Sun Microsystems George lead a design team for systems management in enterprise middleware. At Sandia National Labs he established and integrated a UX team into a development driven culture. Since those early days, he has led design teams building consumer products at Intuit and H&R Block, and enterprise software applications at Sun Microsystems and BMC Software. In all instances, he either built or re-built User Experience teams based on the principle that a deep understanding of users leads to better solutions. These better solutions lead to higher value for customers and businesses.   George is currently VP of User Experience at BMC Software where he leads a centralized UX team responsible for driving user focus throughout the company. This requires innovation in both the design and build of products and services while solving user problems first. The success of the team is seen in interactions with customers and ratings received from industry analysts.
