Katia, BTRtoday

Katia already knew she had a thing for radio when she started writing fan letters to her favorite show host during the Cold War in East Germany. Little did she know the missives never reached her object of desire on the other side of the Berlin Wall, but were being captured by secret agents sitting in underground bunkers spying on their people. The Wall fell and out of the Socialist rubble came Katia, dusting herself off from Communist Party songs while MTV was already grasping for her still uncorrupted soul. Years later, university combined both new worlds -- John Maynard Keynes and Maynard James Keenan -- and it offered first jobs in microphone usage. The year 2000 marked a first low point in her young radio career, when she started working next to her former capitalist radio crush who failed to ever say "good morning" to her. Today, she has almost fully recovered from Western peoples' mood swings and presents politics and music to Berliners in the morning, as well as electronic music tunes to the rest of the world every other Tuesday on her BTR podcast, Via Berlin.

On a final note…

In this year’s last episode of Via Berlin we’ll focus on tunes that somehow got neglected over the past weeks and months – unrightfully so. So, let’s put a spotlight on 2016 releases by Answer Code Request, Cassegrain, Leipzig based Kassem Mosse, Parisien Zadig and Marcel Fengler and Canadian mastermind Tim Hecker and let’s finish this year deeply, yet smoothly. Also in the mix: Tunes by Tin Man and Alien Rain.
