What does the Bible teach about suicide?

Suicide is a growing problem in the United States. There is not a Bible passage that explicitly states that suicide is wrong or that states it is justified. Therefore, we need to consider certain principles to help us determine how we should view this. It is a sensitive topic, but we need to understand what the Bible says that relates to it.

• Worrying Trends in U.S. Suicide Rates – The suicide rate increased by 33% from 1999 to 2017. It is the 10th leading cause of death in U.S. – 4th leading cause for age 35-54; 2nd for age 10-34.
• Suicide Statistics – In 2018, 48,344 Americans died by suicide. In 2017, there were an estimated 1.4 million suicide attempts in the U.S.
