The Contextual Electronics Podcast

Contextual Electronics highlights stories of people using electronics to solve their problems. Listeners will hear how to use electronics in their own projects, by learning about new technologies and techniques. Tune in each week to hear a different guest and how they are using electronics to solve a problem in their life. Contextual Electronics is also an online education program. Started in 2014, CE pairs theory and practice for learning electronics. In 2020, we started the podcast to highlight stories of using electronics in real world contexts.

CEP005 – Clojure Script on Hardware with Mike Fikes

Today we’re talking with Mike Fikes. He is a software developer who specializes in Clojure Script, but has been building custom hardware to run it on.

  • Clojure Script is built on Clojure, which is built on Lisp, which is built on Java (whew!)
  • Mike has been taking Ben Eater’s class and following along building custom hardware to learn more about how computers work. Ben has been a guest on Chris’ other podcast, The Amp Hour.
  • Mike has also been working with Bil Herd, who designed the Commodore 128. Bil has also been a guest on The Amp Hour.
  • Vouch.io
  • The boards Mike designed work with Espirit, a fork of Espruino.
  • You can buy the boards on Tindie, if you’d like to try them out.
  • Mike gave a talk about this subject at Clojure North a couple of months ago.
