Learn English Through Football Podcast: 2020-21 Season – Predictions for Liverpool
Introduction
DB: You are listening to languagecaster.com’s football language podcast. Hello everyone, and welcome to languagecaster’s Learn English Through Football podcast. My name’s Damon, I’m based in Tokyo, and I’m going to be talking about my team, Liverpool, and the 2020-21 season.
Stinger: You are listening to languagecaster.com (in Dutch)
DB: Yes you are listening to languagecaster.com and that message was in Dutch! As always, send us your own message in your language – We like your name plus ‘you are listening to languagecaster.com‘ but if you’d like to tell us your favourite team and where you are from, that would be great too – we’d love to add it to our show.
OK, as I said, I’m going to talk about Liverpool Football Club, the Champions of England and the World and their chances this season in the Premier League. I’ll break it down into key players, strengths, weaknesses, and a final prediction on where I think Liverpool will finish.
Let’s start with key players.
Liverpool – Key Players in 2020-21
DB: Great news for Liverpool fans this week as the club signed both Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich and Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers – I love that ‘Wanderers’, you don’t hear it much in clubs names, so it’s got a real classic ring to it; it sounds full of tradition!
Anyway, these are both great additions to the team, and a lot of eyes will be on Jota to see whether he can support the top three as Klopp rotates the players. And talking about the top three, Minamino will also want to impress the boss and persuade him he can play the Firmino role – creating space and playing in tight areas to release his strike partners. So, my eyes will be on the bench – to see how well they can refresh the tired legs of the main 11 – so Jota, Minamino, Nico Williams at right back and the new left back signing, Kostas Tsimikas. Key player though is Virgil Van Dyke. A rock in defense and, touch wood for luck, not injury prone. Having him on the pitch for the majority of games is key.

Liverpool – Strengths
The easier answer to this is the team. Liverpool really are a unit. They play for each other, for the coach, for the club, for the club’s cleaners… This strength comes from their coach, Klopp,
