Originally released on Sire 29953. It's a crime against pop music history in America that this classic synth-pop recording failed to get the proper airplay here. Even more criminal is that it wasn't even released on 45 in the group's native U.K and didn't chart there until a 1990 release resurrected it. Fortunately, it was quite well known in dance clubs at the time. Alison Moyet is simply one of the best female vocalists of all time, and her partner Vince Clarke (formerly of Depeche Mode) one of the most creative synth artists. FYI, early pressings of this single were credited to "Yazoo." This outstanding reissue on Sire's "Back To Back Hits" series is made doubly so by having Yaz' other U.S. chart tune, "Only You", on the flip. In case you were wondering, Classic 45s awards both tracks 2 stars (our highest recommendation), so it's like getting a little "Yaz' Greatest Hits" package. (Though you really do need some of their other singles for a complete package. :-)
