"The Soul Shack" w/ DJ-J-ME

With a new mix on www.podomatic.com/soulshack each month , DJ-J-ME started "The Soul Shack" in November 2005 on Soulstream Networks as a way to share with the world his take on 'good' music...made with soul. From soulful & classic house to nu disco & chillwave to neo-soul & nu-jazz to rn'b to old school, funk and 'real' hip hop, it's all fair game on "The Soul Shack". Each month, depending on Jamie's mood you may hear any or all of the above music - sometimes a mixed bag of 'all things soulful', sometimes just a particular theme or genre...but always soulful! With Soul Shack parties having occurred in Toronto, New York, Miami & LA, the brand (and DJ-J-ME) continues to grow and gain new fans. Check this podcast for the latest Soul Shack mixes. (Archived Soul Shack mixes are available at www.mixcloud.com/soulshack) About DJ-J-ME: In demand, Toronto based dj who has played everything from 2,000 person Fortune 500 corporate events to Toronto rooftop hotspots like Kost & Lavelle to a decade of TIFF events in Yorkville for various celebrities, as well as gigs in NYC, LA, Chicago & Miami (where he enjoyed a monthly winter residency before Covid hit)...

episode 178: The Soul Shack (Dec 2020) aka "Christmas Cocktails 2020"

I know I'm still playing catch up here on Podomatic and the last post was the Summer Soundtrack, but it would be pointless to eventually post the December mix a few months from now, when the December mix is a "Christmas Cocktails" mix including Christmas music! So the next mix I post after this will be the September mix and so on, but for now, to get you into the Christmas spirit I give you "Christmas Cocktails 2020". I've posted a Christmas Cocktails mix on Mixcloud for about the last 3 or 4 years, which I would record at a corporate holiday party...but no holiday parties to dj this year :-( But with Covid, I felt like this year more than any, I needed to post a holiday mix, so I took lots of love, care and time creating this playlist, and then recording it at home. Without recording it for a live corporate audience, I could include types of music I typically wouldn't play at a holiday party, both because I needed to leave them to play later during the actual "dance" part of the evening, or because they leaned more towards Soul Shack taste and not so much mainstream taste. With this freedom, and spending a few weeks thinking of songs to include, my planned 2 hour cocktails mix turned into a 4hr mix that has the typical cocktails vibe for the first half, and then more of a dance/party vibe for the second half.

I wish you all good health and safety through this very different holiday season and I hope this mix brings a little joy to you and those in your household.

Merry Christmas!
