The initiative Kulturell Inkorrekt / Culturally Incorrect was founded by me in January 2021. The goal of Kulturell Inkorrekt/Culturally Incorrect is to share knowledge and concrete call to actions on the topic of intercultural competence, also clarifying prejudices and myths about other cultures, creating more awareness about intercultural communication and providing knowledge about business and culture. How do we deal with societal standards & our traditions? How do we train intercultural competences? How to empower migrant kids who feel stuck between two cultures - if they have two homelands? And can I as a migrant kid be more successful in business with the right mindset? episode 6: #4 Achmed Najat? Der Struggle mit ausländischen Namen
Warum wir endlich damit aufhören müssen, Namen zu "verkanakisieren"
Dies ist eine lustige Folge wie ich finde, aber hat doch eine traurige Wahrheit: Achmad, Achmed, Najat Schagayeg Paleko - Das ist "the Story of my life". Wegen meinem Namen (Nachnamen) wurde ich schon des Öfteren ausgelacht.
Dabei finde ich, beginnt Respekt zunächst in der Rhetorik - wieso schaffen wir es als Gesellschaft also nicht, ausländische Namen, die die Identität dieser Menschen ausmacht, richtig auszusprechen? Ich finde dafür geben wir uns nicht mal die Mühe. Dabei ist der erste wichtige Schritt zur Integration, die richtige Aussprache des Namens des Anderens. Erst dann sehen wir uns als ebenbürtig, wenn sich beidseitig Mühe gegeben wird.
Was mir auch dabei aufgefallen ist: viele deutschen Mitbürger neigen dazu, Namen zu "verkanakisieren" - dabei steht schwarz auf weiss da, wie bestimmte Namen ausgesprochen werden, oder wir erklären es ihnen wie es geht. Warum passieren dann immer noch auf diese Verkanakisierungs-Faux-Pas?
Ich weiß es nicht. Ich hoffe nur, dass es endlich besser wird!
