Starting out on 4ZZZ Brisbane 102.1FM, hosting community radio show 'Blackbeat', he began his career at a time where vinyl was still the primary format for DJ's and finding new music meant weekly, sometimes daily visits to the local record store. While constantly digging in the crates, @djgavinboyd relentlessly developed his turntablist skills, becoming the 2003 Queensland ITF Champion. Gavin is known for his smooth yet technical style and passion for shedding light on the many shades of soulful music. This is exemplified by his side project '@soulhasnotempo', which brings this passion to a wider community through parties, radio and its more recent evolution into a record label, releasing Jordan Rakei's breakthrough EP 'Groove Curse'. Over the years Gavin has been engaged for a multitude of support slots, opening shows for some of the most influential and respected names in the music industry (including DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Mos Def, Dwele, Jill Scott, Questlove, Robert Glasper, Dâm Funk, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Julio Bashmore) and had the opportunity to play at clubs and festivals in locales diverse as Amsterdam, Philippines, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
