1st Step: Identify Your Unique Abilities

According to Makarand, list down 15 to 20 points that you think you are good at doing. It can be your passion, strengths, or things that you take satisfaction at doing.

2nd Step: Find What is Missing from the Marketplace

After you list out the points, identify 3 or 4 areas where you think that might have been missing from the marketplace that you wished could have existed. You can also figure out how to incorporate it with the current solution that existed.

3rd Step: Understand that Less is More

For Makarand, you do not need to cater to everyone unless your business is for the mass market like manufacturing shampoos and other similar products with significant demands. Try to focus on one or two segments. Otherwise, you will burn yourself out.

4th Step: Select and Choose the Crowded Market

Try to find areas where the market has already been established and stick to it. Try to go after the big pie. Makarand will not stop you if you wanted to go to uncharted territory, but you need to know it is a big warning sign.

5th Step: Become Expert in Your Niche

Once you found your strength and have aligned yourself to your niche, become an expert. Through this, you will become a trusted source or adviser for your target audience.

6th Step: Articulate Your Target Market’s Woes

Makarand advises speaking to your customer’s pain, frustrations, and challenges. Incorporate that language and convey that to your audience—making them feel that you have experienced what they have.

7th Step: Back it Up with Success

According to Makarand, you need to offer customer testimonials—proving that your value proposition works. Give them a Money-Back Guarantee if they are not satisfied, and make sure to follow your bold claims to stay relevant. This allows you to increases trust and transparency with your audience.
