Through Immigrantly, we are revolutionizing storytelling in America by offering a new kind of intellectual engagement that encourages listeners to learn and unlearn on their terms without fear of judgment. Our vision is to normalize the immigrant identity within the American social discourse for a kinder, more humane world. Covering everything from love and dating to food and faith, each weekly episode explores a theme with inspiring guests such as Grammy-winning singer Arooj Aftab, bestselling author of 'The Kite Runner,' Khaled Hosseini, and comedians Hari Kondabolu and Aparna Nancherla. episode 117: The Invisible Issue: Understanding Statelessness

Sharing today, we have Karina Ambartsoumian-Clough and Ekaterina, an alias used by our guest to protect her identity. What about their situation is so unique, you may ask. Well, Karina and Ekaterina have one crucial thing in common - that is their stateless status. Karina has a birth certificate with Odesa as the birthplace, a port once under the USSR. Ekaterina immigrated to the U.S. on a Soviet password. This interview was undoubtedly a teaching moment, and I’m in awe of Karina and Ekaterina’s bravery. It’s stories like these that keep me going, and I hope it touches you, wherever you are, in a way that calls you to be gracious and cognizant.
