Candidate for NYC Comptroller joins us to discuss her decision to run for this critical and broad spanning role in NYC. Reshma is deeply involved in the community across a variety of organizations in the City and her career in public finance and immigrant roots make her uniquely positioned to ensure equity & quality of life for all of New York City. Reshma went to MIT, where she combined her passions to gain a strong foundation of science and math, but also study economics and government policy. After college, she wanted to help support communities like this through urban renewal and public policy. She found a job in public finance to do that. This led her to work for a company that serves as a financial advisor to issuers of municipal bonds. While in this role Reshma worked with the City’s Comptroller’s office daily and served as an extension of their staff, even helping to train new staff. During this time, she worked on the creation of a new financing authority for the City, the New York City Transitional Finance Authority which expanded the City’s ability to issue bonds for capital projects. She has worked on over $40 billion of financings for New York City. Throughout her career working on the City’s municipal bonds and investments, she came up with creative solutions to generate savings and minimize borrowing costs during challenging times - something that the City's next Comptroller will have to do well. Over the years Reshma’s commitment to using those skills to fight for equity for all have never wavered. Her commitment to service has remained steadfast and she is ready to apply that experience and vision to the NYC Comptroller job from day one.
